What are your thoughts on this subject? How do you feel about
this outreach effort?

I'll let my calendar of commitments speak about the importance of PSEs and
contact with the general public:

4/10/05 MS Walk
4/16/05 Astronomy Day event, Clay Center, Brookline: ham information
table and
possible demos
4/18/05 BAA Marathon, First Aid Station 26
4/30/05 BHO Open House
5/1/05 Walk for Hunger
TBD March of Dimes WalkAmerica
??/??/?? Assorted science fiction events (Hugo Gernsback pioneered both SF
& ham
radio, and several legendary writers & publishers were hams. See STRAYS in
April '05 QST for a current example.)
6/5/05 Boston AIDS Walk
6/12/05 Positive Spin for ALS bike ride
6/25/05 Field Day
TBD New England Weaather Conference at Dexter School: SKYWARN and
general
ham info table
9/??/05 WGBH Funfest
9/??/05 Project Bread Ride for Hunger
10/22/05 Head of the Charles Regatta
??/??/05 Whatever else comes up.
9/??/05 - 12/??/05 Mentoring help at Dexter School and Winn Brook School in
Belmont
As needed: Press releases on the above events and handouts for the public,
also the
occasional call-ins to assorted radio talk shows, especially on WBZ.

I'm also thinking of printing up a batch of cards with an elevator speech on
one side and reference websites on the other, since an HT hanging off my
belt brings occasional chances for informative discussions.

My father spent 38 years as a minister. I share his interest in helping
people and in letting people know why I'm there. A lot of that explanation
includes "because hams can do what nobody else can."
