Subject: FW: [K1USN] USS Salemn volunteers needed

K1USN activities with the scouts are cancelled for today (9/11) because I
didn¹t get even one single volunteer!

I am still in need of volunteers for 9/18 and 9/25. (See attached message.)

Your participation makes this activity possible. Please make some time for
it. I¹m especially directing this to Eastern Massachusetts hams that have
spent less than 12 hours on the ship so far this year. Many hams make light
work!

The Council of Eastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Clubs (CEMARC) is having
a meeting on board the USS Salem at 9am on 9/18. This meeting is open to
all. If you¹ve never been to a CEMARC meeting, this would be a great
opportunity to kill several birds with one stone: attend a CEMARC meeting,
get a tour of the USS Salem, and make a day of it and help with the scouts
in the afternoon. And you can get a free lunch and supper out of the deal!

JC, W1AI

I need volunteers to demo amateur radio to scouts on the USS Salem. All
three of the following events are from 3pm till 6pm on Saturday afternoons:

-- Saturday 9/11/04 - 1 or 2 volunteers to work with ~20 scouts

-- Saturday 9/18/04 - 4 or 5 volunteers to work with 100+ scouts. (This
follows the morning CEMARC meeting on board the USS Salem.)

-- Saturday 9/25/04 - 3 or 4 volunteers to work with ~50 scouts.

Those who have never helped on the USS Salem before are welcome and
especially encouraged to participate. I will make sure that there are
sufficient experienced volunteers to show the newbies the ropes!

Please email me at W1AI at hamtestonline.com to let me know if you will help.
I know it's a pain having to give a commitment in advance, but the ship
needs to know in advance so they can schedule alternate activities if we
cannot help out.

While I'm always happy for extra volunteers to show up unannounced, I'm
especially grateful for the ones who commit in advance, as they are the ones
that make this activity possible!

As for this Saturday's event, I need a response TODAY.

Also, please see the attached message from Steve Schwarm, W3EVE. He needs
help with the Jimmy Fund Walk on 9/19.

Please make some time in your schedule to help with these events. You'll be
proud that you did!

Thanks,
JC Cunningham, W1AI

Subject: Help wanted for Jimmy Fund

Hi John, W1AI

I am in real need of 20 hams for the Jimmy Fund Walk on September 19th.
This is a very low key event compared to the Marathon. The assignments
run from late morning to about 6 PM and are along the Boston Marathon
route. Most of the locations are in the last half of the course. It is
in support of the Red Cross First Aid stations and if I can get the hams
on the transport busses. The only requirement is a 2 meter HT with
tones and you must be at least 18 years old. Some walking is needed but
it is not the same amount as the marathon.

Please contact me if you can volunteer. Talk it up with other to get
them to volunteer. This is a very good cause and our support is
important to its success. This is a very good first public service
event.

If you have any questions, please contact me via email (w3eve at arrl.net)
or cell phone 508-922-9688.

Thanks and 73

Steve Schwarm, W3EVE
