[BARC-List] BARC Question of the Week

It didn't have to be a dream, but a real life episode could serve
just as well. One afternoon I was driving in a residential area
of Newton and I saw a man running in the street carrying a
woman's purse. It did not seem right for the neighborhood. He
jumped in a waiting car and took off.
My curiosity made me follow the car. When the driver realized he
was being followed, he sped up but found himself slowed in rush
hour traffic as he entered a main street. I could then follow
him easily without getting too close. Meanwhile, I used the
autopatch of the Weston repeater to call Newton police. I
identified the car (from Connecticut) and was able to predict
where it was headed.
Minutes later, the police had set up a roadblock and trapped the
car. The car and its trunk were loaded with stolen goods and the
occupants were arrested. I stopped and identified myself to the
police, and I described the use of ham radio. Of course, the
miscreants could not figure out what led to their capture.

Subject: [BARC-List] BARC Question of the Week
> Deep down, have you ever wanted to save the day with your Ham
Radio? Seriously, have you ever daydreamed about pulling out your
HT during a bank heist and calling the cops? Or maybe getting on
HF during a hurricane and hearing a sailboat's call in distress
that you relayed to the Coast Guard? What is your fantasy rescue?
>
> For me, it is the HF story, but I imagine it with a captive
group of people in Africa, getting on a small radio. They don't
know how to operate it but put out a call for help. I call the US
State Dept, but they don't believe me. So I call the FBI, who
calls the Coast Guard, the Army, and finally reach a band of
mercenaries who parachute in and rescue the captives.
