SATERN, Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network, is preparing
to activate from its 1400Z (9:00 AM CDT) Net on 14.265 MHz Saturday,
September 4th, 2004 to assist areas impacted by Hurricane Frances.

Its winds are currently at 115 mph. Frances is reportedly twice the size
of Charley with hurricane-force winds extending up to 80 miles from its
center. The path of destruction could be much wider. Frances is also
about twice the size of 1992s Hurricane Andrew, the Category 5 storm
that destroyed much of southern Miami-Dade County.

SATERN personnel will monitor the net frequency today and stand by if
needed for emergency traffic. If the need arises, the net will
immediately be activated.

During the 1400Z SATERN net this morning, net members prepared for the
potential multi-day effort. Captain Jeff Daniels KC5ZQQ Salvation Army
Commander from Ada, Oklahoma, reported on the Army's activities via his
mobile HF radio from the Sarasota, FL. area as Salvation Army Disaster
Team members await the arrival of Frances to the State of Florida.

The SATERN Net will handle emergency traffic and provide Health and
Welfare information to those searching for news of loved ones in the
areas impacted by the hurricane. Specific inqueries may be handled at
the Health and Welfare link on SATERN's webpage, satern.org.
