Ergonomics is the science of fitting a machine or mechanical system to the person, instead of making the person adapt to the machine. For example, the top of a computer monitor should be slightly below eye level when a person sits upright. You should not slouch in your chair nor stare down or up to the monitor to read or view it. And you should not have to reach excessively to gain access to controls on your radio or computer or whatever you use on your desk.
How is your station set up ergonomically?
For me, my most frequently used equipment, my radio, is directly in front of me on my table, which is 30 inches above the floor. My forearms can be supported on the table with my wrists slightly elevated to turn the controls. I do not have weight on my elbows or wrists when I'm on the air. Less frequently used items, such as antenna switches, are further away or away from a central arc of my arms and shoulders. My chair is comfortable but should be elevated an inch or two so I could sit more erect and not feel like I'm in an abnormal slump. And you?
73,
ERIC
