CW Op Wanted for Interesting Field Day Situation
I'm co-organizing an unusual Field Day operation this June 26-27 in
Stamford, CT, on a harbor island which is a city park. This FD
station will be a recreation or "reenactment" of a World War II
field-headquarters station of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in
Normandy, France, 60 years ago this month. The operation will honor
the Allied (US, Britain, British Commonwealth, etc.) heros who fought
there, and will include a barbeque for WW II veterans and officials
of the City of Stamford.
Our radios will be original, WW II, Allied Army sets -- all vacuum
tubes, of course -- with original vibrator and dynamotor power
supplies running from 12-VDC batteries (re)charged by an original, WW
II, 120-VAC generator. Our workhorse radio is a Wireless Set (Cdn)
No. 19 Mark III <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Wireless-Set-No19/>.
This set transmits 10 W, CW, on 80 and 40 meters (and about 2.5 W on
AM 'phone). Despite its low power, in three successive June (2002,
2003, and earlier this month) field operations I have worked the UK
and Europe with it, each time through contest QRM.
Our radios will be set up in a tent or, if the weather is good, under
a fly; and everything in sight including our military vehicles will
be WW-II-original or, in trivial cases, an authentic reproduction.
Six to eight personnel will be wearing WW II Canadian paratroop
uniforms.

group may be viewed at

For June 26-27 we need CW operators
* who would enjoy the opportunity to participate in a public "living
history" exhibition honoring those who fought in Normandy 60 years
ago;
* who would enjoy operating WW II radio gear; and
* who would not mind wearing at least parts of a WW II uniform --
which we are prepared to lend for the occasion.
If you have any interest in military history, or if you enjoyed
_Band_of_Brothers_, or if you are a veteran, or if you simply enjoy
operating outdoors, then I GUARANTEE that you will enjoy your time
with us on June 26-27.
For more info please contact me directly. Thanks.
