Sixth Annual SKYWARN Recognition Day
Time: 9 AM - 3 PM, Saturday, December 4, 2004
Location: Blue Hill Observatory, Milton, MA
On Saturday, December 4th members of the Boston Amateur Radio Club will be at the
Observatory to participate in SKYWARN Recognition Day. Amateur Radio operators will set up radio stations at the National Weather Service (NWS) offices and other weather related locations and will contact similar stations around the world. For several decades, ham-radio operators have assisted the NWS by providing real-time reports of severe weather and storm conditions, and they recently played a key role by providing communications during the hurricanes that affected Florida this year.
During this event, stations will exchange signal reports, location and a brief
description of the current weather at their respective locations. In addition,
the Observatory will be open for tours, the hams will be available to explain
their activities and equipment, there will be kite making and tagged balloon
releases, and our gift shop will have a holiday sale with discounted merchandise.
The event is free and open to the public, so come and join us for a fun day!
Contacts can be made on 145.23 and 20 Meters. We will be operating as W1BOS/MQE
