Subject: [MA/RI Red Cross Disaster Comm] Eastern Mass ARES Standby to
Mobilize, Advisory #1

***** 24 Hour Standby to ARES Mobilization *****
*** Hurricane Charlie Now Expected to Arrive Near Us as a Weak Hurricane
or
Strong Tropical Storm ***
** Request Widest Rapid Dissemination **

Hello to all:

Because of increased risk of the passage early Sunday of a surprisingly
strong Hurricane Charlie closer to our area than anticipated just 24
hours
ago, I am placing all ARES team members on standby for mobilization
starting
at sometime between 1800 and 2330 local today, Saturday 14 August. At
this
time you are to place yourself on standby status only. Please use the
time
to secure your home and family, (buy batteries tax free!) and complete
any
outstanding additions to your "go-kit" during the day today.

Please be prepared to start operations from your home, and check into the
nearest RACES repeater in your district when the mobilization order is
given. Selected members will be requested to move to EOC's and/or
shelters
by ARES leadership when/if that is requested of us.

As per our doctrine, DO NOT self mobilize, but do check into your nearest
net for news and instructions. Follow the routine we used during the DNC
limited mobilization and all should go smoothly again.

I will be at the "Boxboro" show for most of the day tomorrow. Thank you
in
advance for your help and cooperation. 73,

/s/Michael P. Neilsen
