SALVATION ARMY ADULT REHABILITATION CENTERS PITCH IN TO ASSIST EVACUEES IN
CALIFORNIA
San Bernadino, California (October 31, 2003) - Salvation Army emergency
disaster services personnel, including volunteers from The Salvation Army's
San Bernardino, Calif., Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC), continue to aid
emergency response workers and residents on the frontlines of the California
wildfires. To assist the thousands of people forced to flee their homes with
little more than the clothes on their backs, the San Bernardino ARC is
providing clothing to evacuees via "cashless" thrift stores set up at
evacuation sites including the San Bernardino City Airport and Rancho
Cucamonga.
Adult Rehabilitation Center locations in Riverside, Anaheim and Long Beach
have supported the effort by providing 1,500 garments, and Kohl's Department
stores have donated 40,000 undergarments to be distributed to evacuees.
In San Diego, displaced residents may visit one of 14 thrift stores in the
area to receive free clothing. Other Adult Rehabilitation Center locations
are assisting in the effort by providing manpower and transportation. The
Canoga Park ARC has provided a 48-foot trailer and driver to transport cots
and related items from the southern California emergency disaster services
warehouse to the Kroc Center, an official evacuation site.
