Yes I have the mic and what you discribe is what I was thinking if I had to
hardware the set but mounting the plug into the case and not the mic.

But if the mic is still pluged into the unit, when the TNC keys up would it
not make the mic hot and any conversation taking place around the unit be
transmited?
