First, there should be three wires. You are apparently missing the red
one which is power.
The tone module is a Communications Specialists SS-32.
Hold or orient the tone module so that the DIP switch is in the lower
right hand corner. Just above the switch body, on the right side, is a
terminal. It is right beside a transistor (actually a voltage
regulator). This point is ground. Next up on the right is a capacitor
and just on the other side of the capacitor is another connection point.
This is where the red wire goes. It is 12 volts.
On the top left corner of the tone board, is the third terminal. This is
the tone output and is the white wire.
When the board is installed into the radio, there are two terminals right
beside it to the edge of the main board. These are power and ground.
There is one with a red wire coming up from below. This is the 12 volt
point and it is switched by the front panel switch. The 12 volt pin is
labeled J406 (but it's not the J406 as shown on the schematic). The one
labeled J407 is the ground pin.
Now, where to put the white wire. As you look at the main board, with
the front of the radio toward you, follow the left edge of the shielded
box at the front toward the back of the set. About 1/3 of the way back
you will find C44x (something). Just to the right and a little toward
the rear is the "real" J406 (which I think is unlabeled). This is where
the white wire goes.
