You are the reason this race works, and the Memorial is the reason we make this
race work. You have already accomplished an amazing amount and the race hasn’

AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE (ARES)

MIPS by Bob W5KCB, Assistant Section Manager Oklahoma Section of Lawton, OK

A Mass Immunization And Prophylaxis Site (MIPS) exercise was conducted at
the Grady County Seat in Chickasha , OK on Wednesday, April 19, 2006. ARES
Amateur Radio Operators provided the emergency communications.

Bob, W5KCB, functioned as the Communications Division Supervisor with Stan,
WA7WNM, as his assistant. Dale, KE5KCX, Paulette, KE5HCV, Randy, KE5HZQ,
Richard, KE5HZU, Bill, AD5NK, Dave, K5FOZ, Laqueta, KD5WEV, Renee, KE5BVK, Candy,
KE5IAE, Myrna, KE5IAD, Rockey, KE5EQC, Ilana, KD5UGP, Millie, KD5OBN, Gary,
KE5GRV, Cindy, KE5HZP, Shirley, KD5WEM and George, KK5QY manned the various
operational sites during the exercise. Sam, KE5EPY, manned the station at the
Oklahoma State Health Department. Communications was linked from the
Chickasha 145.230 repeater to the Edmond 147.135 repeater and the Lawton 146.910
repeater.

Accolades were heard from all quarters with excellent ratings from the
Oklahoma Health Department Evaluators.

FAA Club Licensing Class Success
Appreciation to Dave-K5FOZ for the update on the recent round of another
successful Amateur Radio licensing class. Earlier this month, 25 students tested
for Amateur Radio operating privileges. 22 new technician license holders
were produced from the licensing class sponsored by this club with an extra
class operator also resulting from the session. Congratulations to the students
and all who helped so much in this process. K5FOZ reports that most of the
new license holders will be involved in upcoming Grady and Oklahoma county
Health Department exercises. Wonderful effort all the way around!

Lake Country Tailgate April 1 and beyond Great time in Ardmore on April
fools day. Enjoyable group having a wonderful time equipment buying and selling,
getting acquainted and laughing. Had a well attended League forum with all
having time to discuss the good news of Amateur Radio while revealing topics we
all need to work on. Appreciation to all who attended this nicely done League
sanctioned event and are a source of strength/ team building. It is the
quality of these events that make our role as public service providers through
Amateur Radio possible and respected. Ever think that events like this are
emergency simulation exercises in a manner of thinking? What about our weekly
nets, club meetings, and meal gatherings? Seems if we get to know each other in
these settings we are better able to serve when duty calls. Do you agree?
Thanks to Kevin-N0IRW and all who helped pull this fun event together. Sure hope
we can do it again next year!

Affiliated Club Process, Changes and New Affiliated Club Coordinator

Recognition to Jim-N5OHL for serving the Oklahoma Section as ACC for several
years. He improved club communication, League presence and the number of
League affiliated clubs. We now have 29 clubs with ARRL affiliation with that
number being 17 when Jim became ACC. The newest affiliated clubs are the
Dustbowl ARC in Guymon and the Muskogee ARC. Thanks to Pam-N5KW for her effort with
the Muskogee club. It is great to have both clubs back affiliated. An SM
visit to the Dustbowl club is planned for May 2 with appreciation to
Austin-KB5IIM, and others, for making a difference in their communities.

Dave-NB5N from Tulsa is the new ACC and brings great skills to the position
and experience in the League field organization. Dave is a past Oklahoma
Section Manager and has accomplished significant goals in the Tulsa Health
Department Amateur Radio station(K5THD). Let us hear from you to get your club
affiliated or re-affiliated. Speaking of K5THD a wonderful special event was held
recently at this station. The event celebrated World Health Day and helped
communicate that point and the purposefulness of Amateur Radio.
