Oklahoma Section Report
Green Country Hamfest was indeed a wonderful time!
Many thanks to the organizers, presenters and attendees. Sure enjoyed
seeing so many of you at the League forum, League booth, and visiting in and
around the event. The Green Country Hamfest Committee certainly deserved a pat
on back for a job vy well done. A strong gathering of League representatives
including Jim Haynie-W5JBP League President, Norm Fusaro-W3IZ from League HQ
and David Woolweaver-K5RAV West Gulf Division Vice-Director were in
attendance. The Tulsa Air & Space Museum was presented a certificate of recognition
for their hosting the International Space Station (ISS) Amateur Radio contact
in December 2004. Also for their effort with the ISS Bill-NI5X & Keith-W5IU
were given recognition and thanks.
Appreciation to Joe-N6CL for his update on BPL from his perspective as CQ
Magazine columnist and editor of VHF Magazine. Other presenters included
Arlyn-KK5GY Section Traffic Manager, Dean-KL7MA Section Official Observer
Coordinator, Lucien-KD5LPV Section Emergency Coordinator, Eddie-K5EMS & Tom-WA9AFM
, both Assistant Section Managers. Mark AE5MH brought us up to date on
Salvation Army activities including the monthly newsletter and the early May 2005
conference. The Tulsa Community College ARC was presented their League
affiliation certificate. Jim-N5OHL, Section Affiliated Club Coordinator presented
this to Tommy WD5AGO.
National Weather Service Seminar
Tremendous activity in Midwest City. A great number of Oklahoma Section
members came by the League booth to meet Dan Miller-K3UFG of League HQ. Many
thanks to Eddie-K5EMS Assistant Section Manager for his hours of support and
seminar participation. On March 7 Amateur Radio was very well represented at
the Emergency Managers Legislative Day at the State Capitol. Was super to be
a part of the day and meet so many of our emergency manager friends. Enjoyed
visiting with Lloyd-KC5FM Mayes County emergency manager. Eddie was sure
comfortable at the state capitol meeting his legislative contacts
Enid Amateur Radio Club
Thanks to Mike-KD5OFF for preparing a great club newsletter. The quality of
the publication and points made by club President Dave-KC5SII in the
newsletter are being recognized by many. Well done Enid ARC. Dave's points about
Amateur Radio operator's activities are well stated, as below:
There are several ways the amateur can help the service. One of the best is
through the active advocacy of the hobby. Solicitation of membership and
promotion of services go a long way towards improving our lot in life. Another
way is through education. Holding, or helping teach classes for upgrades or
initial licensing is a great way to give back to the service.
Lawton-Ft. Sill ARC
Very productive visit recently with Bob-W5KCB and Chuck-KE5AAK in Lawton.
Bob, Assistant OK SM prompted a great networking opportunity. Chuck is
Commance County Emergency Manager and doing great things with Amateur Radio. He
stated: it is not about you and I but is about we! What a great statement
about working together regardless of the uniform you wear. Networking deluxe
is being done in fine fashion in Commance county and other entities throughout
Oklahoma.

Tom Johnson-N5IKN SK
Yes, we lost a great friend in Amateur Radio. Tom was a very dedicated and
reliable individual who gave so much. He will be missed by so many of us who
loved his presence on Section nets including net control demeanor. His
closing comment each time on the nets wished the "best of God to you and yours"
. Who could want any more!
