The "Club News" comes from ARRL in HTML format. Since
none of the qth.net mail lists will accept HTML, I have
converted the message to straight ASCII.

New Tools for ARRL Clubs

The ARRL Affiliated Clubs Presidents reflector has really
taken off in its first week with almost 100 club presidents
participating so far. We hope to see many more club presi-
dents sharing ideas. If you are a club president, past or
present or a VP go to

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arrl_prez/ and join the group.

Some of the common threads so far have been increasing
membership and member participation. These two topics are
very closely related to each other in that new members
bring in fresh ideas and are enthusiastic. This enthusiasm
tends to rejuvenate the exiting membership and involvement
increases.

The old expression that you can lead a horse to water but
you can't make him drink is really not 100% accurate. If
the horse wants water he'll drink it, but if he wants a beer
then you've led him to the wrong place.

As club officers we are the leaders and we have to lead
our members to the places that the majority of them wish
to go. But where is that? That's a simple question and
has a very simple answer, ask them. Some of the clubs
have a questionnaire that they use to find out what the
membership is interested in.

Make your meeting entertaining. Quickly dispense with the
business and get on with the program. The ARRL multi media
library (http://www.arrl.org/FandES/ead/videos.html) has
material that is suitable for programs at monthly meetings.
Your own club has people that are willing to talk about
their special interest in the hobby. Just ask them.

Many of the clubs have been talking about an information
packet or a welcome packet for new hams. This has garnered
a lot of good discussion as to what should be included and
many good ideas have come out of the discussions. A list
of local repeaters and on air activities and a list of
mentors or people that can help out are just some of the
materials suggested for the packets.

Do you have any ideas for the clubs? Then join the
reflector and share them with the others.

New Amateur Page

We have been telling the clubs about the New Amateur page
http://www.arrl.org/members-only/NEAM/ which allows you to
find new or recently upgraded hams in your area. This page
allows you to search by ARRL Division or Section or by
ZIP codes.

This page is replacing the new ham report that was previ-
ously sent to the clubs. The reports are available in a
variety of formats including PDF mailing labels. This Web
page is provided to the ARRL Board of Directors, Field
Organization leaders and ARRL Affiliated Club leaders for
use in promoting membership and activities such as ARES,
Field Day, or club meetings. Information derived from this
Web page may not be used for commercial purposes, for
campaign purposes in any ARRL election, or in any way
contrary to ARRL Bylaws

<http://www.arrl.org/aabl.html#bylaws> and policies.

The information on this page is updated monthly and allows
you to search by the different months for the past six
months. Because it was just launched in May there is only
two months worth of data to search.

A lot of people are using this page since its launch and
they are finding it very helpful as a recruiting tool. We
anticipate many more people using it as time goes on. We
appreciate all of the comments that we have received about
it.

Update Your Club Record

If your club has not submitted a club update in two or more
years, please do so. Information about your club is given
to prospective radio amateurs who want to learn more about
our hobby. In addition other mailings go out on a non-
scheduled basis. The Annual Report is our way of keeping
your club records at HQ up-to-date.

The Club update

http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/club/forms/fsd2/

keeps your club records at HQ up-to-date and must be
submitted at least once per year. To stay actively
affiliated, update and submit the on-line form to ARRL HQ.
Simply follow this link and the instruction will guide
you through this.

Please note: Make sure that all e-mail addresses are
correct. Do not use web page URLs or phrase like "same as
contact person".

Don't forget the Online Active Club Primer that is full
of useful information for clubs. Bookmark this page because
you will be using it quite often.

Field Day Pix and Space Camp on Web

Don't forget to check out the ARRL Affiliated Club page for
pictures of Field Day 2004.

There is also a great story about the students of Space Camp
Turkey in Izmir, Turkey and their two-way QSO with the
International Space Station.
