FCC issues callsign

Pryor --- WX5EM is the new callsign for the Mayes County Emergency
Management Radio Club, according to Lloyd Colston, director of Mayes
County EM.

"The new callsign will be used when the Emergency Operations Center
is manned," said Colston. "If the Citizen is listening to the
147.060 repeater on their scanner and hear WX5EM, something is
happening in Mayes County."

The callsign is indicative of the role of weather. WX stands for
weather in Morse code. EM in the suffix stands for Emergency
Management, according to Colston.

"Historically, Mayes County has been blessed with an active radio
club in the area and a number of amateur radio operators involved in
Skywarn. This is just one way we can acknowledge their efforts."

The callsign may also be used at special events such as the recent
Field Day exercise and on deployments when team members' expertise is
requested.
