Section Report
April 26 Update
Hello OK Section and thank you for your public service: Many of your work
tirelessly to implement the reality of the League providing Amateur Radio as a
service.
The OKC Murrah Memorial Marathon was on Sunday April 25 with approximately
7500 participants. Amateur Radio played a huge part in event communication
with 60 hams assisting. Tremendous coordination effort by Tom-WA9AFM. Tom
reports that the event organizers were vy impressed with the role played by
Amateur Radio. APRS was a key part of the event with 15 APRS stations active. This
made for quite a visual display of the extensive effort by Amateur Radio and
clearly communicated to served agencies the power of Amateur Radio.
The Tulsa ARC will be assisting with a 66 mile bike ride on May 2 and
continues with its monthly breakfast gathering. Good public service event and
opportunity to gather with friends.
Two upcoming events to partake of:
-Tri-State Amateur Radio Group-Hamfest on Saturday-May 1 in Woodward
Contact Jay [email protected]
Should be a great hamfest with planned League forum.
-Salvation Army Disaster Conference-May 2-4 near Tahlequah

Congratulations to Assistant SM Eddie-KD5JGB on receiving recognition in May
2004. QS. This was expressed on page 13 in the ARRL in Action narrative
section for his published BPL article in the OK Emergency Manager's Association
newsletter. Nicely done Eddie! This effort represents the OK Section focus on
working with our served agencies on a statewide level and beyond. Similar
energy is underway with the National Weather Service, OK & National Voluntary
Organizations Active in Disasters, OK Salvation Army and Red Cross. The same
vision resulted in the OK Section Cabinet recent meeting. The same group had a
Section net on April 25. Discussed was issues and challenges in the OK Section,
field day club visits, and upcoming hamfests and events. Nice discussion and
time for the OK Section Leaders to gather on Amateur Radio. It is felt what we
accomplish within the OK Section, in large part, is based on successful
networking on a statewide level and beyond in promoting ARRL connections with our
served and sister agencies.
The Mayes County ARC and OU ARC recently completed special activities to
draw attention to Amateur Radio and expand the role. The Mayes County group was
a part of a public exhibit of public service entities and made huge strides
in connecting with the broadcast media. An antenna day with several
presenters, including Coy Day-N5OK, West Gulf Director was hosted by the OU crew. Well
done in both sites and thanks for activities to spread the word of Amateur
Radio.
Kudos to the Southern OK ARES club in Ardmore for their League affiliation.
The club recently got League web site recognition and publicity in the local n
ewspaper for their severe wx activities. Great club meeting and cookout hosted
by the club on April 17 to receive their affiliation certificate from Coy
Day-N5OK Division Director. Section Affiliated Club Coordinator Jim-N5OHL was
also a part of the festivities. The Wheatstraw ARC hosted a visit on April 18
by N5OHL and the SM. Appreciate the club's effort in Amateur Radio. The March
meeting by the Edmond ARS had the following to present:
David Barnes-City of Edmond Emergency Mananger, Section staff-John-KA7GLA,
Dean-KL7MA, Dave-N7HRT, Jim-N5OHL and the SM. Great information sharing as
Lucien-KD5LPV District Emergency Coordinator discussed OK County ARES
operations.
