[ARRL-OK] "When all else fails"

Then there are those of us who use FD to give the newcomers a chance to operate and have fun. Many of the ops we have had in the past several years don't own an HF station. Having a control operator on hand to allow the hams without HF tickets to experience the full field day has encouraged many of them to upgrade and become more proficient as emergency operators. Just my 2 cents worth.. KB5XN.. Jim

Beside that, FD can and should help to sort out what gear
and other things are needed.

Please spare me the volunteers who have done nothing
but ragchew. They are more trouble than they are worth
without training. Give me the contesters every time!!!

What am I doing for FD 2003? I'm staying home and do ANYTHING but turn on
the HF!
Why you ask? Would it not be nice if ALL emergency's had a lead time? That
is what FD is
to me. In a real emergency you have NO lead time! Grab and go! Yes I have
done FD in the
past but they were club functions where food and fellowship was prime over
operation. I would
liked to see FD changed so as to having ARRL task, over the air, each FD
operation with a NO NOTICE
on the air operation which would include a NTS message. It is a shame that
amateurs can not
write and pass even a simple message to the SM!!!!!

But to those that do FD MAKE IT SAFE AND HAVE FUN!!!

PS: the AAARC has a Fall Bash instead of FD each year at K5LEE's rocky top
ranch.
I'll give you the date so you can come over and see how the East side lives.
But you got to like cat fish! Lee fishes all Summer long to have enough for
the bash!
