Calling All Amateurs,
The events of the past few days have increased the need for radio
communications in the effected areas. There have been many hams involved so
far. I'd like to thank all of you!!
I am developing a calendar to make sure that all positions for the relief
effort are covered. We are covering the following positions:
Critical Coverage
NCS
Distribution Center
In addition to the above, we are manning between 7 and 12 Canteens at any
given time. We have established 3-6 hour shifts with the following hours:
0600-1200
1200-1800
1800-2400
The last shift can vary with the needs of the canteen. That means you could
be done early.
Many of the local hams have been working 12 hours of disaster related work
along with working their normal job. You do the math (look at the time this
message was posted) If you can work a shift please email me at this address.
If you become available on short notice, contact NCS on the 146.82 repeater.
You will need a mobile or a 5 watt HT with a portable antenna, (rubber ducks
are not portable antennas). The Canteens are aluminum so mag mounts are not
going to be effective while the vehicle is moving. In some areas your
personal vehicle will be able to follow the canteen but not in all areas.
If we could get everyone to work a shift it would make this task much easier
for the few that are here now. The Choctaw ARC has agreed to cover the
manning on 1 canteen for the duration of the event. If we could get other
clubs to follow suit it would make managing personnel easy.
Again Thanks!
