Washington county hams are concluding a major effort in public service to=20
their community.  Here is their write up of the event.....nicely done.  Kudo=

to the group for their significant, varied and lengthy commitment to being=20
responsive in the best possible spirit of Amateur Radio.

A tornado cut a swath across Washington County north of Bartlesville Oklahom=
a=20
on the evening of April 19, 2003 at about 6 p.m.. Many home were completely=20
destroyed and others received various degrees of damage.  A total of 56 home=
s=20
were damaged by the F 2 tornado that spawned at least 2 satellite twisters=20
over its 12 mile path of destruction.

Amateur Radio operators were responsible for many of the initial reports=20
prior to touchdown as well as tracking the storm and reporting on debris=20
path. =A0Additionally, Amateur operators Jim Herndon, Jim Thomison, and Jay=20
Brashear were first on the scene of the most devastating damage areas and=20
provided search & rescue services based on additional training they had=20
received thru the fire service and the CERT (Community Emergency Response=20
Team) training.=20

Other Amateurs arrived shortly joined by volunteer firefighters, law=20
enforcement, EMS, and emergency management personnel. =A0Activities included=
;=20
communications, coordination, damage assessment, logistical support, and=20
documentation. =A0Amatuers logged over 250 man-hours during this event. Thos=

KC5SQJ, KC5JIX, KC5SUB, KC5YBH, KC5YCB.
