The time is here again. Tomorrow (election day) will be the next meeting of
the
Amateur Radio Electronics Union at the Bell Shoals Baptist Church.
Rod (KC4MMR), builder of the Buddipole look alike antenna will be there
with his latest update to this great portable antenna. I believe he has made
a coil for use on 75 meters which will make the little antenna even more
effective. Rod will have his latest portable radio which is a much more
powerful version of the Yaesu FT 817. We will set up for operation on
6 meters to check into the new Brandon 6 meter round table at 7:00PM
and then we will convert to 10 meters to check into the Brandon 10 meter
round table one hour later.
I will bring three 2.4 GHz "Wi Fi" antennas and will set up a test to
determine their effectivenes on the 2.304 GHz amateur band. I am hoping
that they will be reasonably effective down this low in frequency so that
I can use them instead of the loop yagis that are frequently used on this
band. I will also have some of my most recently constructed 10 GHZ
equipment which consists of souped up versions of the older 10 GHZ
rigs. I am not ready for a full set up yet as I have some more construction
work to do on one of the transverters. I hope to have a relatively high
performance 10 GHz station running in the next few months. This will
include an ERP of about 40 watts and a receiver noise figure of about
1.5 db.
I hope Mike (W4UOO) will show up with his 1296 transverter so that
I can install a receive filter to reduce interference from the nearby
TV transmitters. When Mike gets up and going we can have a three way
QSO on 1296 with Mike, Dave (N4DLW) and I. That is really crowded
for that band!!
Looks like an active meeting is being set up for tomorrow night so be sure
to try to make it. We will be glad to see you.
Don't forget to vote!!!
