The monthly meeting of the Amateur Radio Electronics Union will meet next
Tuesday,
09/05/2006 at the Bell Shoals Baptist Church. The meeting room in on the
North end
of the church complex on Overhill Road. The white double door in the older
section
of the church complex is the entrance. The meeting starts around 7:00 PM but
someone
is usually around to unlock the room between 6:30 and 7:00 PM.
Anyone needing more specific directions should contact me by E-Mail or get
on the
Brandon repeater (147.165 +, 136.5 Hz tone) to get help on the way to the
meeting.
I will always try to be on the air to give directions prior to the meeting.
This month is expected to be especially interesting as Rod (KC4MMR) will
have his
latest "Buddy Pole" configuration. Rod and I obtained an expanding support
pole
at the last Tarc Fest to support our portable antennas and will set up for 6
and 10
meters. The intent is to check into the new Brandon 6 meter "round table"
net
on 50.200 MHz at 7:00 PM and later to check into the Brandon 10 meter "round
table" net at 8:00 PM. Rod will have his latest Yaesu portable radio and I
will have
my trusty FT 817.
I will bring the spectrum analyzer and run some tests on the frequency
responses of
some "Wi-Fi" antennas for 2400 to 2500 MHz. I am especially interested in
their
relative performance at the 13 cm weak signal calling frequency of 2304.1
Mhz.
I also have some new stuff that I have constructed for 10 GHz and 1.3 GHz. I
have
ordered some kits from Down East Microwave Inc. that consist of a pair of
MMIC's
and associated components on a teflon circuit board that can be used at
virtually all
frequencies from 10 MHz to 12 GHz!!! They are easily adaptable to the
desired
frequency by using various MMIC's and bias components. I have a 50 mw
amplifier
with 32 db of gain for 1.3 and 2.4 GHz and an 18 db gain amplifier with 20
mw of
output at 10 GHz. They are constructed on the same circuit board with
different
components.
The most interesting piece of equipment to me is the 30 watt, 1300 Mhz
amplifier kit
that was acquired at a cost of only $50.00. I have not got the kit completed
as of
yet but I hope to have it done by meeting time. If not complete, I will
bring the
partially complete amplifier.
Hope to see you folks at AREU!!!
