I was looking over the stuff I obtained at the Tampa hamfest for the 10 GHz
ham band. I found that there are two mixers, two bandpass filters and two
local oscillators that can be tuned to the 10.368 GHz calling frequency with
a 2 meter IF frequency. That means that I can have two 10 GHz basic
stations on the air in a couple of months. The hold up is a suitable
reference
oscillator for the microwave "bricks" that will serve as local oscillators.
I will
order the suitable crystals and will have to build an oscillator that is
sufficiently
stable for the multiplication factor that will be required. The actual
frequency
output will be 108 times the crystal frquency. That means that a 10 hz drift
in crystal frequency will produce a 1080 hz drift in the operating
frequency.
The antennas will probably be rectangular horns at first. This will lead up
to
the horns feeding 18 inch DSS dishes. This should be good for several miles
of line of sight range even with basic transverters.
It will be an interesting project and I will keep you folks informed.
