BPL THREAT TO THE TAMPA BAY AREA!!!!!!
According to the Tampa Tribune, a company in Largo
is courting local power companies to install BPL
equipment in the Bay Area.
The company hopes to start BPL trials in three to six
months in several states.
The company is talking to Florida Progress (Formally
Florida Power Co.) concerning BPL trials in parts
of Pinellas, Polk, Hernando and Pasco counties.
If you have Saturday's copy of the Tribune, the
story is on the front page of "Money Sense".
I THINK THAT THIS WILL TELL YOU HOW CLOSE BPL IS
TO US HERE IN FLORIDA, IT'S NOT "UP THERE" ANYMORE,
IT'S HERE!!!!!!!
Each of us can have an impact on this threat to our
bands by being aware of the threat and how it will
affect ham radio.
Please do all you can to become educated as to it's
interference potential not just to our service but
to other users of the HF and lower VHF services.
By banding together with other users of the affected
spectrum (police, low band VHF users, local, state
and federal government, channel 2 through 6 broadcast
TV, and any number of services I will think of in the
next few days) there may be a chance of eliminating
the threat or at least minimizing the interference
caused by this service.
As you probably know, the Tampa Bay Hamfest is
contributing $1.00 for each ticket sold to the BPL
defense fund of the ARRL. This is our major tool
in conteracting the BPl threat to our bands.
Please be aware of the problem and do everything
you can to influence your congress person of the
potential problem. Awareness, education and action
are our greatest allies.
Thanks,
Tony
