Well here it is January 2002!!!!
It seems like a long time until Field day but we only have
5 BARS meetings until the big day. Now it seems closer
does it not? We have to select a Field Day Chairman and
all the other support folks that will make it happen. Believe
me, it is not too soon to start preparing.
Does anyone have any great new ideas for the BARS
2002 Field Day? Think about it folks!!!!!!
I am planning on a station for 6 meters, 2 meters and
70 cm like last year. I will also have a dedicated radio
and antenna for the International Space Station. The
old FT 847 will do double duty as a 6 meter radio and
the AO 40 satellite station. The TS780 will be the
two meter and 70 cm radio complete with a 170 watt
amplifier on 2 meters and 50 watts on 70 cm. I saved
an old 486 computer and monitor for the satellite tracker.
Ed (W7LGD) and Al (WD4A) each have 70 cm. fast
scan ATV stations as well as antennas cut for the ATV
frequencies and at least one ATV station will be operational.
An APRS station will hopefully be available as well as the
ever-present HF phone and HF CW stations. We will also
plan to make some solar powered contacts as we did in
2001. How about some volunteers to operate these stations?
Hopefully we will have better antennas for the phone station
this year. Ed is revamping an old tri bander and I hope that
we will be able to build a 40 meter Moxon rectangle for the
phone station. These coupled with a full complement of
operators for the phone and CW stations should net us
a good score.
Davis Park is tentatively planned as the field day site this
year considering the great time and great scores we
had there in 2001.
For me the best part is being with like minded friends,
eating good and having fun. The rest is just the "icing
on the cake".
C U there!!!!
