Actually, GMRS has 23 frequencies available: the 8 repeater inputs and 8
repeater outputs mentioned below in Mike's list, plus an additional SEVEN
interstitial frequencies that are, in fact, shared with the Family Radio
Service.
These seven frequencies are:
462.5625 462.5875 462.6125 462.6375 462.6625 462.6875 and 462.7125.
Note that these SEVEN GMRS frequencies are IDENTICAL to the channels 1 thru
7 of the FRS.
There are limitations on the use of these frequencies with a GMRS license:
- power is limited to 5 watts.
- simplex only, no repeaters.
- and of course, a license is required.
(An FRS station can use these same frequencies with 0.5 watts, and no
license required.)
So when Doug pointed out that GMRS shares FRS channel 1, that is correct.
If they wanted a truly FRS-only exercise, they should have chosen channel 7
or higher.
If I were to modify Mike's list below showing the changes, it'd look like
this:
