Hello Roy, I've got an LM-18 that I swapped for the same model aboard the USS Ling in Hackensack NJ. Mine came with a book with matching Serial number, and I knew that I could certainly make one that suited my needs, so I swapped with them. Also got a BC-221 that works FB as well. And my ORIGINAL Novice RX, a BC-348Q that was my dad's first project (and it shows with his wiring!). Early 1950s was when he acquired it.

Here there is an LM-20, just as old as I am (80) and working very well. Also there are some BC-221 "Newer" frequency meters, most of which work nicely.
It's satisfying to use an instrument from the 1940's that still functions well.
