[ARC5] Resistor Excursions

Folks,

Generally my experience shows that resistors age up, particularly if
they are 1 meg or more in initial value.

But all resistors aren't created equal. To my amazement, in my 1953
R-390A, built by Stewart-Warner, they were all within original
tolerances. These resistors don't look any different than any others of
htat period.

Go figure...but test and find out.

Peace,

Scott Robinson

But I also ran some tests on an RCA built BC-348-C and discovered that almost all of the resistors appear to be Okay. It is hard to tell exactly with some resistors without careful study of the schematic, since "pink" is not on the current resistor color code and I don't know if that band is supposed to be white or red or something else. The BC-348-C resistors appear to be made differently than those on the J model, so even though it is likely a couple of years older than the J they seem less vulnerable to excursions. So perhaps some of our vintage equipment will not require wholesale replacement of the non-active components.
