My first Command Sets came from G&G Radio in downtown Manhattan. He supplied tuning knobs made from old Bakelite knobs from old radios slid over the end connector of a spline cable. The knob was slightly off-center because it was meant for a shaft with a flat side but it worked. I eventually replaced it with a knob with the brass tubing. I don't remember if he supplied the knob or sold it separately. I still have that set and a couple of those knobs.

Alternatively, take a suitable length of hardware store brass tubing and stick it into a knob that has a setscrew.
