I was just working on the BC-348-N I have been trying to restore and noted that at the least the J-N-Q models also use a dual volume control, although of a bit different value than the BC-342, something like 125K/350K. Since 348's are a bot more common, I think, that might offer another source of parts for a 342. Wayne WB5WSV
