[ARC5] CW Keying Wheel

One problem is that the transmitter site of many stations is the
most valuable property they own. KNX, a 50KW regional clear, has been at
the same site since 1938. The tower is a half wave vertical with very
good coverage. KNX has not sold off its property as have some other
stations.
At one time the FCC licensed stations for daytime only operation.
Then decided it didn't want to continue that policy. Many of those low
power stations became licensed for highly directional high power
transmitters, often on what were protected clear channel frequencies.
The result is severe limiting of the coverage of the original clear
channel stations coverage.
The broadcast industry has pushed the FCC into reducing the overall
technical quality of signals and limiting of the coverage of all
stations. All out of greed. Now AM stations have trouble making enough
money to stay in existence. Very bad.
FWIW, WINS was originally owned by Hearst and the call letters mean
International News Service.

The two transmitters cover the county pretty well, but as for other counties, no way! This is in contrast to when I lived only a few miles from the KNX transmitter in the Los Angeles area, which out out a signal you probably could pick up on a light dimmer if you tired.
