The AM station I listen to most often has two transmitters, each with a max power of 250 watts, and they are further restricted during night time hours.  The two transmitters cover the county pretty well, but as for other counties, no way!  This is in contrast to when I lived  only a few miles from the KNX transmitter in the Los Angeles area, which out out a signal you probably could pick up on a light dimmer if you tired.
I wonder if the future of AM radio is more like KNX or those local 250W stations?  And what is going to happen to the NDB Band, 200-400 KHZ?
