The Fair Radio Catalogs were an educational tool in their own right. I got my first one, in 1973, in order to look for some of the radios mentioned in reprints of the P-51D and P-47D pilot's manuals. That catalog listed a fascinating set called the APX-6, referencing articles in something called "QST." Our college main library had QST issues going back to the 1920's. And what came after that is now history.
Anyway, I have Fair catalogs going back to 1973. And what made me wish for a time machine were those 1947 ads in QST, such as a complete brand new SCR-274-N installation for $39.95 from some place called Radio Shack.
