This is not the first outfit to go under. The “deal” you propose has been
done before. It does (likely) provide a reasonable return to the current
owners.
The flip side is that it has rarely provided future access to the inventory
for “us folks” who might go looking in the future. Turns out that keeping
things easy to get at is expensive ….
