In a flying in formation, the P-63 should have kept visual contact and maintained separation. The videos seem to show that the flying path of the P-63 and its relative attitude did not allow for the pilot to maintain visual contact. It is a mystery to me why the P-63 did not move away once he lost visual contact. I am sure there is a reason, but, probably, we will never know.
I am sure that the director of the air show designated areas that the various airplanes, such as B-17 over runway 31 at 500’. P-63 300 ft left of runway 31 at 700’. These kind of rules are simple and provide protection for the pilots and the spectators. I wonder if we ever going to know what happened.
RIP to all the pilots and condolences to the impacted families!
Best, Francesco K5URG
