[ARC5] Unusual Local Tuning Adapter on R-30A ARC ADF Receiver

What would be the utility of a preset frequency?  I suppose if the aircraft
were operating in a limited area and the R-30A was set to a nearby 50KW
broadcast  station or LF beacon that might make it easier for the pilot /
navigator since that location was known.
