Mike:
1. Where did the USN use the SCR-522?
2. I recall an article in the USAFM Newsletter describing how the USAF in Korea configured a C-47 with multiple SCR-522 to act as a
"AWACS" aircraft and relay T-6 FAC requests for support. I presume that reflects the fact that even though the ARC-3 was the main VHF set in Korea for the USAF, that there were many C-47, C-54, B-26, and probably even B-29 aircraft that still had SCR-522. I'd guess that the first F-51's used in Korea, which were former target tugs, squadron hacks, and aircraft in storage still had SCR-522, but the F-51's refurbed and rushed over to Korea were fitted with ARC-3 and BC-453.
3. Aside from the one off example of the X-1A, did the USAF make any use of the VHF ARC-5?
Thanks!
Wayne
