Some time ago, I had the chance to pick up a Wavetek
3000 signal generator. For various reasons, it did not
come to pass.
But I've often wondered if it would have been a good
choice.
Are there any opinions as to how good the Wavetek
3000 series of signal generators are? Strong points,
weak points, repairability etc?

I have the room so an HP-606A is a nice addition to cover the very low frequencies. I remember getting the 606A at a defense contractor sealed bid auction. When I picked it up, I noticed that it had no dust anywhere inside. The aluminum fan blades were shiny clean. It simply glistened. I figured that I hit the lottery until I turned it on. It blew fuses and the problem was a shorted power transformer. I stuck it away on a shelf, and only recently found a transformer to drop in it. Imagine my surprise when I opened it up and it did not look so shiny new. Then I realized that I had gotten it in 1982 and this was 2019! The darn thing had aged 37 years on my shelf!
They are not worth much now, but they sure do work well.

If it's for the older gear, why not simply a URM-25, or an HP-606 ? Certainly affordable. For accuracy, simply add a decent counter. It all depends on what you feel you need for that kind of gear. K3HVG

Scope and power supply are already in place, but too many options on generators on what's out there and what is sufficient for working on the SCR and AVT stuff. New or used, but I'd like to keep it under $300 total. Audio thru ?... Definitely don't need anything with a bus, as I'm manual only.
