Only electrically, Hue.  The original is contained in a stainless steel 
box.  See https://aafradio.org/flightdeck/1935/BC-224-A.html for a photo 
of the exterior of the assembly.  Inside the box is an ancient frame 
design, with protruding bearing carriers and solid cast end bells.  The 
manual photo shows this:
