The RU-17 is the receiver for the RU-17/GF-12 24v command set and thus would never be used with a GP-7.  The GP-7 was normally used with either the 12v RU-18 or 24V RU-19 liaison receiver.

How much more stranger can this get...but now a GP-7 Navy aircraft xmtr that runs on 115vac 800cycle and what is probably a RU-17 Navy rcvr. It looks like the dynamotor for the rcvr is under the GP-7. Controls for tuning the rcvr and GP-7 remote on the dash. So it looks like the driver is the radio op.Paul
