Anybody's first guess has to be that it is the indicator for a DF receiver
or some form of ILS. But I agree with the comment that all of the ones I've
seen had very prominent "L" and "R" lettering. The only other notion I had
was that it might be an indicator for engine synchronization to avoid the
"beat note" created by two piston engines operating at slightly different
RPMs. Any takers?
