What is the actual heaters draw at 24 volt? 
I have some very nice 24 volt either 1.5 or 2 amp transformers I scrounged years
ago, thinking of just such an application. I should dig some of those out in the next
weeks.
With the quadrupler, what input current limit resistor are you using? Also are the 
four lytics in parallel, or are you using a R-C filter ripple filter?
