Hi,

Mine are hacked to one extent or other. Still, they don't really need 
more modifications. I run mine from batteries. I use a 12 volt lead-acid 
gel battery (two in series) for the heaters; all six of mine have the 
original heater winding series-parallel strings. I use a series stack of 
9 volt batteries to give 90 volts B+. They run just fine on 90 volts B+ 
and draw about 15 mA with headphones. The battery packs last quite a 
long while (weeks for me). Dollar store batteries are good enough. The 
heaters can drag down the 7 AH batteries in a long day of operation but 
those are, of course, rechargeable. And I have several.
