[ARC5] Waking up Command Receivers

Regarding restuffing potted caps, if you have a small lathe it is easy to carefully cut (turn) off the mica top just below the swage, replace and rewire the caps thru the original holes/terminals and resolder around the cut. The “pot” is tinned brass and solders easily. This costs nothing extra over the new caps, looks almost original and takes about 1/2 hr per pot.
I found all the aluminium ‘tags' were corroded to a powdery grey color, and got a collection of 80 year old beeswax from somewhere in the USA!
My BC-453 receiver has logged 24 of the 30 or so remaining NDB’s around NZ on an 80 meter dipole. We also have occasional 630 meter CW activity here as well (475KHz).

With a modest ~100 foot wire no more than 16 feet above ground I received NDB and experimental 600 meter and 630 meter amateur stations out to about 1500 miles. I have wondered what might come my way if I had space for a *real* antenna.
