It's even simpler now with Jfetsa 6ba6 has a gain of 4400 micromhoa BF244b FET has a gain of 5600 micromhogetting the AGC range correct can be tricky, though, and sometime the increased gain has be reduced to avoid oscillation of the original circuit.
the RF sections will work with low voltage "plug ins" ,up to the audio output section. A LV direct plug-in won't work very with the 5k ohm ( plate) output transformer. An integrated power amp who's output need to be coupled at the speaker impedance must be used. In other words, bypass the output transformer.
The R392 receiver is one of the few that can use sold state plug-ins in the output stage, because it was designed to use a 28V plate voltage on all stages. I used a pair of MOSFETS in push-pull to replace that insane power sucking , heat generating 26A7 dual pentode tube. ( yes, I said dual pentode!). The heater alone requires 15 watts .The reduction in case temp was dramatic using the MOSFETS.

Just found an article by W2EEY in the Aug 1968 issue of Ham Radio Magazine on solid state conversions of tube circuits. It is available at Worldradiohistory.com/Archive-DX/HamRadio
