[ARC5] Way OT -- SX-28

I wonder if this is a confounding with the RCA AR-88 which
was never sold commercially. Many were sold under lend lease to
England and Russia. I am not so sure the SX-28 is that rare. They
were sold by all the Hallicrafters dealers until replaced with
newer models after WW-2.
The SX-88, mentioned in another post, is an oddity. I think
an attempt by Hallicrafters to build a world class general
purpose receiver but it was too expensive for its market and
there was too much competition from better receivers. Someone
might have manufacturing statistics from Hallicrafters, I suspect
not very many were built.

It’s up there in the same category as vintage inboard Chris-Craft wooden runabout speedboats, original Porsche 356 roadsters, 55 Chevys, and early Mustangs. Highly regarded when new, very classy styling, and they ain’t makin any of em anymore! Although you can get things like new construction Mustangs hand built by a company that bought the original tooling from Ford to make new bodies and body parts. But you’re gonna pay a hell of a lot more than what they sold for in the 60s!

The SX-28 included the Lamb noise blanker but the implementation was not so good and Hallicrafters eventually issued a modification which removed it and replaced it with a conventional series valve clipper. OTOH, the SX-28 is sexy looking and worked pretty well.
