That's pretty neat !
I have always valued logging charts, notes, etc. - anything that gives a more human connection to
those days of yesteryear.
Sometime around 1962, there was a space shot with splashdown in the Pacific. As a high school
student, I had a basic Lafayette receiver. I picked up a news relay of the splashdown and astronaut
recovery via SSB from the U.S.S. Kearsarge. As I recall, it was daytime here on the West Coast. I seem
to recall the frequency being somewheres around 12 MHz. It was hard to resolve SSB on that receiver,
and keep it resolved ! I actually sent a "prepared QSL card" to the Kearsarge, I don't know now how or
where I could have gotten a usable address. I did not ever receive the signed QSL back - no big surprise.
I did get a QSL from PWAK Wake Island with that receiver, even picked up the planes approaching
there, but it was practically one hand continuously on the BFO.
