You might want to post this question on the main at army-radios group. John, AA7W, reads it and has experience with MAB, DAV, and BC-611.
I am with you on the longer antenna probably being better in the end result. John seemed to say that the BC-611 was the more sensitive
receiver. He heard some kind of comm station from China coming in on his BC-611 using it in western WA state. I still think the antenna would
make the difference.

I thought about solidstate plug ins for the MAB but the transmitter power amp + modulator is where it gets sticky. You could tap down the tuned
circuit for the PA but what to do about the modulation? MAB are awfully cute things so it's a continual tossup if I should sell or trade mine off.
I think the last ones I saw go on Epay went for around $450 each WITHOUT any antenna. Get that !
