Hi Gordon:

In the book The Grand Experiment at Inhokern it's mentioned that the Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake did tests 
of the shape of atomic bombs.  They also had a facility named Salt Wells Pilot Plant where the cast explosives (probably 
for Fat Man).
