I guess the guys that told you that never heard it. I do not understand the statement anyway, as buoys are not usually dropped close to the sub, unless by mistake. If they know where it is, no need for sonobouys. I was never as impressed by our soldiers as when I visited one of our nuclear subs. The character and discipline of the sailors were extraordinary. Submariners tell me that the worst thing they can hear is the drone of a sonobuoy aircraft dropping buoys. It means you're probably about to die.
