I would not be surprised to find that the crystal in the devices is fairly specific to that
particular sub-model. Put another way, I’m not sure that an early 221 crystal would be
right for a late version of the 221. Only way to find out would be to swap this and that
to see.
Indeed you can head over and buy an LM or 221 at the typical hamfest for < $20. Shipping
to Europe might be 3X that…..
